“Come connect with other dancers and musicians at this first-of-its-kind (in the Lower Mainland) FREE outdoor contra dance! All level of dancers are welcome to swing to the music of a community open band. Also featuring the debut of a Cape Breton Inverness dance set! Hope to see you there!”
What is a Contra Dance?
Similar to square dancing, contra dancing is a social dance that is popular around North America. Lines of couples perform simple footwork patterns, walking steps, and twirls to a live band playing Celtic, French Canadian, and American music. A dance caller calls out the pattern of the dance for the dancers to follow, so each dance is new and fun.
