Tim at The Rogue Folk Club for St. Patrick’s Day March 17th
Want to spend St. Patrick’s Day in a green beer free zone? Check this out! Tim will be joined for a concert at the Rogue Folk Club (at St. James Hall in Vancouver) by his former Fear of Drinking band mates, ace fiddler, Shona le Mottée, and Gerard Kerr, (guitar, vocals and bodhran). It will be a night of Irish songs and fiddle tunes with the usual dollop of humour, harmony and bonhomie. The opening act will be Fionn. You can find full details here.
We hope to see you there! You can keep an eye on Tim’s live appearances here.

The Cuckoo Gene Update

As previously reported Baltimore’s Andy Cooke (of Dataloaf fame) and Tim have been writing songs for what they are calling their ‘Sci-Fi Prog-Rock Epic’, the title of which is The Cuckoo Gene. The songs are now complete and recording has commenced on the backing tracks. Tim will be heading out to Baltimore in September to record vocals at a yet-to-be-determined venue. It is clear though that it will certainly not be at either Lucky Black Cat or Thieving Magpie studios!

Hither and Yon

Tim is also recording some new songs co-written with Alan Millen and several other co-writers for a follow up to the 2008 Eventually Brothers release All Over the Map which will be called Hither and Yon. Recording will start with Bill Buckingham at Palace studios in Vancouver BC in mid-April.

The Free Lunch Video

Mrs. Fiona McCardle of Bootle, Merseyside England, a keen fan, sent us this link recently. Those of you who are familiar with Tim’s song The Free Lunch will want to check out the video, which tells a very similar funny story with the moral of the tale being “Love more, judge less.” “Hear hear” say all at Big City Towers!

If you aren’t familiar with The Free Lunch you can see Tim performing it here

Enjoy! (Recommended with a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit!) Thanks Fiona!

Record Low Temperatures Threaten Shorts All Year-Round Boys

Another loyal fan Mr. Henry Hardcastle of Calgary, Alberta sent us this link which reminded him of Tim’s hit song The Shorts All Year Round Boys.

“Climatologists are blaming record-low temperatures for the steep decline in Year-Round Shorts-Guy populations, resulting in a massive shortage of exposed, hairy, mid-winter calves, according to a new study released today.” Thanks Henry!  You can read all about it here.

In Black and White Lingerie?

For some reason known only to themselves this is the picture Amazon has on its page for Fear of Drinking’s ‘In Black and White’
Do they know something we don’t?

Allison Russell New Album Gets Rave Reviews

“Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla, Allison Russell and Amythyst Kiah have joined forces to confront the abuse of African American women with authority and pride on a new release on Smithsonian Folkways…Four black female banjo players wrestling with gender, race, slavery, sexual assault and the domination of the male gaze might make an admirable-if-arduous prospect, but this new collaboration proves by turns a proud, devastating, authoritative album made for our bewildering times.”

It’s just one of a growing number of excellent reviews for this most timely release. You can read the whole piece here.
