INTERVIEW WITH MIKE McCORMICK

Arrogant Worm Mike McCormick interviews Tim via Zoom and they talk about folk music and his experiences in music. The press release said “Tim grew up in the northeast of England and now resides in Vancouver. He has played solo, performed in bands such as the legendary Fear of Drinking, recorded many different projects as well as writing about music in Penguin Eggs.” So now you know! It’s all here in glorious colour!

GOING DUTCH

We got this message a few days ago and were suitable intrigued. We are pleased to tell you that we have now connected with a very satisfied group of customers in The Netherlands – and have an open offer to play over there when this pandemic is done. Can’t wait! Anyone who remembers the words for 18 years to a song of Tim’s they heard once is doing better than any of us – including Tim!

Hello Tim,

Jez Lowe just told me that you are the singer-songwriter who made the song T-shirt in Winter Boys. If he is right I am over the moon right now! In 2002 my daughter heard that song during a your performance at the Mansfield Folk Club in The Brown Cow. We, Dutch tourists at the time, had left her in the pub because we had car problems and had to wait for the AA. We’ll…long story short: she never stopped talking about that song, she can still sing the chorus, but forgot your name and did not buy a CD. So, my question is: is Jez right? Was it you she saw and heard back then and if so is there still a CD for sale that has that song on it?  As I said we would be over the moon if we finally found you after 18 years! Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks in advance for replying!

Kindest regards,

A MESSAGE FROM ALLISON RUSSELL

A Message From Allison Russell

We got this email from Tim’s ex- Fear of Drinking bandmate Allison Russell and wanted to share it fare and wide. Even though the election is over the sentiments therein are well worth your time.

Hi Tim,

I hope you’re all holding steady through the storms…

I wonder if you would watch or read – and share my Dream of America piece published by Rolling Stone a couple of days ago?

Dream of America by Allison Russell Essay/Transcript:

https://allisonrussellmusic.com/the-dream-of-america/

I am trying to share it as widely as I can prior to the US election- I can’t vote yet over here – but I’m using my voice in every other way that I can.

My protective mama wolf instinct has gone into overdrive… As the mother of a 6 year old daughter- I feel the urgency to be part of the change that I want to see for my Ida and for every child- for all the generations to come… and for the sake of our Mother Earth who sustains us…

Peace and Healing,

x

Allison

THE NEWCASTLE MUSIC SCENE IN THE 70s AND 80s

COMING SOON!

‘The Closest Thing to Heaven’ is a unique photographic record of the Newcastle music scene in the 1970s and 80s. Featuring a mixture of professional and amateur photos capturing the energy and DIY ethos of the bands and artists that played to the city’s loyal crowds. Despite the many social upheavals and economic recession in Britain during this period, there were still people keen to go out any night of the week. The atmosphere of this scene is captured by many of the shots taken from within the crowd of local bands such as Prefab Sprout, The Kane Gang and Arthur 2 Stroke and the Chart Commandos. As well as the music, this book features some of the important venues, labels, art and people like Chris Donald, Steve Nash and Tim Readman that were a major part of Newcastle’s music culture at this time. Covering various genres including post punk and electronic music, as well as more traditional rock, this photo book will bring back memories of a carefree youth that for some was ‘The Closest Thing to Heaven’.
