Friday June 16th Pub Night at the Red Dragon …

Yes! Friday June 16th 7.30 pm Pub Night at the Red Dragon – with classic British pub food and music by Tim Readman at The Cambrian Hall 215 East 17th Avenue Vancouver V5V 1A6

Vin Garbutt RIP

So sad to hear about Vin passing away. He taught me more than anyone will ever know. Love to Pat and all the family.

May 2017 Update

Summer of Love
Tim was back in the studio in April with Bill Buckingham, at Palace Studios in East Vancouver, to record an Alan Millen song to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 1967’s summer of love, called … you guessed it … Summer of Love! This affectionate but tongue-in-cheek pastiche of the sounds and sentiments of that particularly hot season can now be downloaded here –
– but hurry it is only there until 16 May, 2017!

Summer of Love on YouTube
… and here’s a message from lyricist and man about Zurich town Alan Millen:
With the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band only a couple of weeks away, it’s time to recall what became known as The Summer Of Love. Your humble scribe has reinvented himself as the psychedelic relic precisely for this purpose. Teaming up with Tim Readman and Bill Buckingham always leads to some exciting adventures and this time around is no exception. The track was recorded in Vancouver in April.
We’re dedicating this particular effort to all you flower children out there. You know who you are!
Please make an old hippy happy and share the video link generously with kindred spirits of all ages.
Feelin’ groovy!

Comedy Cares
We had great time at Comedy Cares in Port Coquitlam with Alison Ogilvie and crew. We raised a few hundred for Stroke Recovery Association of BC, Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity and Boden Lalonde.
Tim played a couple of his own humorous ditties and Mike McCormick’s ‘I am Cow’ from his days performing with The Arrogant Worms, and one from Vin Garbutt’s repertoire called The Hartlepool Monkey by Alan Wilkinson. You can read about the legend of this famous monkey here and hear the song here:
Just in case you’ve never heard the Worms then try going here to hear the fine hymn to the bovine creatures who keep some of us well fed:

May 2017 … and We are Still Going Blue

There’s a new selection of photos below for your pleasure. As long as you keep sending the photos we’ll keep posting them!

Welcome to Spring Pan’s People!

Welcome to Spring
Hope you did the rite thing on the equinox and ran through the woods with woolly trousers on waving your tail and generally spreading fertility vibes on the good earth. We were too busy grafting away at the Big City HQ to bring you more delights. We are glad you are out there though. Someone has to do it and it might as well be you! For us March Madness Means More Music! That means tons of work for Tristan and Natalie belting around in Mr. Fabriani’s new wheels. We go blue and he went red!

Penguin Eggs Go Blue Review
We can give you a sneak preview of the review of Tim’s latest album Go Blue by Les Siemieniuk, which will be in the upcoming issue of Penguin Eggs music magazine. It was very good of the folks to include it even though it isn’t strictly speaking a folk music record! It is 100% Canadian however, except for the bit that isn’t.

Go Blue
Big City
Mr. Readman has been a stalwart part of the BC and Canadian folk music scenes for a long time since emigrating from England. Besides producing, artistically directing festivals, and writing for Penguin Eggs he is a consummate performer and songwriter. He’s produced a terrific body of work from his early days in Canada as a member of Fear of Drinking, to being an Arrogant Worm, to solo albums named for various colours. He’s just added “Go Blue” to that repertoire.
It is a bit of a departure from the past – thirteen songs in the R&B-ish and pop veins more than folk. Going back to roots or exploring new territory- it doesn’t matter. “Go Blue” is a lovely collection of songs – I especially liked “Old New World” and the title track “Go Blue” as catchy pop songs. Good on ya’ Mr. Readman for throwing an unexpected curveball.

Wizrds Album Out Now!
Baltimore’s Andy Cooke has just released Black Light, a new Doom Metal album under the alter ego Wizrds, which we have been rocking out to at Big City Towers. You can listen to samples of tracks from Black Light here:
Andy is the mastermind behind Dataloaf who you can hear here and in various other places:
He also has a few other incarnations including Pine Tree State
and Electric Wave Inspection Bureau
Remember to tell your people-you heard it here first!

Sci-Fi Prog Rock Project Ahoy!
Andy and Tim are now collaborating on what they describe as a Sci-Fi Prog Rock project … more on that as things progress. Will it have a gatefold sleeve? Will it be a double concept album? Will the songs last at least 20 minutes? Oh yeah – probably!

Comedy Cares
We had great time at Comedy Cares with Jacques Lalonde, Alison Ogilvie and crew. We raised a few hundred for Stroke Recovery Association of BC, Beauty Nights Society and Jacques nephew Boden.
Tim played a couple of his own humorous ditties including this one from his days performing with The Arrogant Worms:
Don’t forget the big benefit night for Boden at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver BC on Tuesday March 28th – see here for details:

Postcard from Newcastle Video
In this song from The Exiles’ CD “…at St. James’ Park” an expat NUFC supporter feels nostalgic for his former home after receiving a postcard that jogs a flood of memories. Alan Millen has put some images to the tune and posted it here for your delectation:
